Local and overseas artisans

Our beautiful range of eclectic pieces have been hand selected from local artisans and overseas. By purchasing a handcrafted item from our shop you are assisting those organisations that help people who are marginalised overseas:

100% natural Asian and African products

  • Village handicrafts from India, such as throws, cushion covers and bedspreads are made from 100% natural fibres, either cotton or silk and hand woven on traditional looms (as shown). The fine embroidery is hand sewn and the dyes are vegetable dyes and natural indigo – all of which are not harmful to the health of the maker. These are sourced from Zs Precinct.
  • African textiles, such as uniquely patterned bags and aprons, via the KARGENO Centre for Hope a tailoring program which provides opportunities for women to earn income for HIV/AIDS affected mothers in Kisumu Kenya
  • Woven textiles and felt items come via the Women’s Skills Development Organisation in Pokhara NEPAL – a fair trade organisation which empowers disadvantaged women who face significant social and economic hardships
  • Smart Craft in Phnom Penh CAMBODIA provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Supporting Australian artisans

We are also interested in supporting Australian based craftspeople, designers, artists and woodworkers. These talented people do what we can’t do, so we support them so they keep knotting, making patchwork, transforming fabrics, carving and woodworking, soap making or all the other ways they are giving us pleasure and beauty in the things they create.

Some of our local suppliers are:

  • Wozwaste an Australian based business that is recycling rubbish such as motorcycle tyres and toothbrushes in Indonesia into funky must-have satchels, wallets, wrist bands, jewellery and belts· a local Lithgow craftsman making handmade hobby horses and rocking horses
  • a range of gorgeous babies playmats and bib sets by a Blue Mountains seamstress
  • Rachel Szalay a Blue Mountains artist who is renowned for her special take on Australian native flora and fauna. Rachel has had her designs imprinted onto marble turning art into a stylish coaster or grazing plate.
